Holy Cross + Santa Cruz is child friendly and child safe. We have Sunday School programs in English and Spanish, and various Christian Education opportunities for Adults throughout the year.
Younger Children – We use the popular and engaging Godly Play Program that enables school age children to engage in the mystery of God who is present in their lives, present in sacred scripture, present in the celebration of the sacraments and present in the church’s ministry and outreach.
School Age Children – Holy Cross has a three year program for primary, middle and high school age students. We use the Episcopal Church Curriculum to deepen the learning initiated through the Godly Play Program. The program also provides opportunity for its participants to participate in outreach efforts.
Sacramental Preparation – The Episcopal Church shares faith with the Orthodox, Roman Catholic and Lutheran churches in the real presence of Christ in the Eucharistic elements of bread and wine. In our practice, children receive the Holy Eucharist from the day of their Baptism. At the age of reason they are prepared to make a public affirmation of their faith that the Sacrament they receive is a sharing in the Body and Blood of Christ and we refer to this event as their First Communion.
When they have reached the age of maturity, young believers, if they are ready to take this important step, are prepared to receive the Sacrament of Holy Confirmation.
Before any adult can work with our children they must have participated in a Safe Church Workshop.
Adults – Various opportunities for adults are available throughout the year. Currently, we offer Bible study groups and are looking to expand our opportunities for adult faith formation.
Children and adults have the opportunity to serve as Acolytes and Eucharistic Ministers.
